Gran Canaria has historically been less celebrated for wine than Tenerife or Lanzarote, but the DO (established 2015, consolidating older sub-DOs) is producing increasingly interesting wines. The island's wine country is concentrated in the centre and north: Santa Brigida, Telde, Valleseco, and the Monte Lentiscal area.
The interior of Gran Canaria is surprisingly green and cool -- the contrast with the tourist south coast is extreme. Whites tend to be aromatic and fresh. Malvasia shows well here.
